Charles Dickens

Our Autumn 2012 workshops were focussed around the works of Charles Dickens, with particular focus on A Christmas Carol, in order to tie in with Union Theatre's Christmas production of A Christmas Carol. The director and musical director from Union Theatre helped run a selection of these workshops, in order to cover key areas of the show with the children and it gave an additional opportunity for the children to rehearse their roles. However, it was also essential to look at other works by Charles Dickens, so a brand new element that we introduced this term was music composition.

The children split into two groups and each wrote a song, from scratch, based on a poem written by Charles Dickens and they performed this at the presentation morning for the parents. Along with this, they also performed two songs from Oliver, choreographed by a member of Union Theatre and a snippet from the full-scale production of A Christmas Carol.

We also looked at ghostly make up and scenery, where the children helped design the props for Union Theatre's production of A Christmas Carol.
